LAG is planning to publish an illustrated children’s book about Lady Hale, president of the Supreme Court. Today (15 June 2018) it launched a fundraising campaign to raise money to publish the book, proceeds from the sale of which will contribute to the charity’s campaigning work on access to justice. The book will be published next year, 100 years after women were first permitted to be lawyers.
Lady Hale said: ‘It’s been an amazing life and I’m thrilled at the idea of making it into a picture book to entertain and inspire young people.’ LAG’s chair, Laura Janes, has been the driving force behind the project. Janes believes the book ‘will not only be an inspirational story of Lady Hale’s achievements, but will also introduce children to the legal system, the concept of equal access to justice, the importance of the rule of law and how it affects us all’.
The book will be illustrated by Henny Beaumont, a London-based artist/illustrator, who has produced an animated trailer for the project. Rebecca Omonira-Oyekanmi, the journalist and writer, has agreed to write the book, along with writer and TV presenter Afua Hirsch.
More information is available at the fundraising page.
