Advising Communities (AC), an advice service based in the London borough of Southwark, has closed its doors after its board decided to call in liquidators.
AC was previously known as Advising London and had offered advice on housing, debt, benefits consumer employment and immigration cases to Londoners for over 20 years. According to its last submission to the Charity Commission, it employed 31 staff and had a team of 85 volunteers. The charity’s turnover in 2017/18 was £1.3m.
A statement from AC’s board published on its website on 1 May 2019 said that, following a board meeting in April and advice it had subsequently received, ‘it has been decided by the trustees that unfortunately the financial position of the company means that it is appropriate to engage … insolvency practitioners’.
