On 19 November 2019, Alison Pickup, legal director of the Public Law Project (PLP), chaired a conference on strategic litigation for social change. The conference was a collaboration between PLP, the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA) and the Strategic Legal Fund for Vulnerable Young Migrants. It brought together NGOs, legal practitioners and funders to learn about the use of strategic litigation to challenge and change unfair systems.
Charlotte Kilroy QC’s introductory talk on when and how to use strategic litigation is available here. Other sessions saw case studies on the use of strategic litigation from The Children’s Society, Medical Justice and Impact Law for Social Justice; Harriet Wistrich of the Centre for Women’s Justice and Emma Ginn of Medical Justice discussing the importance of collaboration; and Sonal Ghelani of the Migrants’ Law Project on how to gather evidence and research to build a case.
Save the date for advanced training - now set for Thursday 27 February 2020. Please visit the ILPA website for more details in the new year.
