Human rights
The Human Rights Act 1998 redefined the relationship between the individual and the state. LAG believes the government should do more to educate people about the Act, thus helping to build a wider 'human rights culture' - one in which respect and dignity are paramount. Our training courses and publications explain human rights law and practice to lawyers, advisers and public bodies.
Human Rights Awards 2009
The JUSTICE/Liberty Human Rights Awards 2009 recognise and encourage individuals and organisations whose work is dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of others. Their dedication is often overlooked - these awards provide an opportunity to address that.
To nominate an individual or organisation that you think has contributed to the advancement of human rights in England and Wales, visit the JUSTICE website at: http://www.justice.org.uk/inthenews/index.html. By nominating them for one of the awards you will encourage them and inspire others to take up this vital work.
Closing date for nominations: 5pm, Monday 9 November 2009.
