Solicitors Journal closure announced
Marc Bloomfield
Wilmington plc, the owner of the Solicitors Journal, has announced the closure of the publication, which was established in 1857. It had been struggling for some years due to falling subscription income.
Legal Action understands that the journal had contemplated moving to a monthly publication schedule, but Wilmington was not convinced that this would return it to profit. It had tried to sell the journal, but no buyer could be found.
In recent years, digital media has led to changes in legal publications. Legal Week went online only in 2011 and The Lawyer changed from a weekly to a monthly publication in April this year. In the legal world, the New Law Journal and the Law Society Gazette are now the only remaining weekly print publications.
