Description and brief synopsis
This course provides an overview of the legal framework for the delivery of community care and will draw out some of the implication for practice. It is suitable for lawyers and advisors, and for social care practitioners who are starting out in Community Care work.
Topics include:
The overarching well-being principle
The new general duties including the prevention agenda
Assessments
National eligibility criteria
Care and support planning in the new framework – personal budgets and direct payments
Carers’ rights
Transition from children to adult services
NHS Continuing Healthcare
The course will not cover social care legislation in Wales.
Aims and objectives
To understand the key elements of the Care Act 2014 and the associated regulations and guidance
To identify and explore some of the potential implications for practice
Course materials/resources
Lecture format. Case studies and question and answer sessions enable delegates to explore this area of law. Comprehensive course handouts will be distributed to all delegates.

Karen Ashton: Karen Ashton is Head of Public Law and Community Care at Central England Law Centre. She is a leading practitioner in Community Care, co-authors the LAG Community Care update and teaches nationally on a range of Community Care topics
Booking rates
Commercial rate: £215 + VAT - commercial organisations including barristers and solicitors in private practice.
Standard rate: £205 + VAT - statutory and not for profit organisations.
