Sue James
Chief Executive

Sue brings with her many years of campaigning on access to justice and her front-line experience as a housing solicitor. She is an experienced court duty advocate having spent the last 15 years delivering and running two duty schemes in West London. She is a founding trustee of Ealing Law Centre and has worked in law centres for most of her career. In 2017 she won the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Outstanding Achievement Award. She is co-author of Housing Possession Duty Desk – a practical guide, co-editor of the Legal Aid Handbook and Justice Matters. She has been a regular writer for Legal Action and other media and is a regular speaker on access to justice, housing and legal aid.

Legal Action Editor

Louise is editor of LAG’s monthly magazine, Legal Action, which provides news and comment on legal aid and access to justice issues, as well as law and practice updates on social welfare law and related areas. She has worked at LAG for 16 years, working as deputy editor of Legal Action, before becoming editor four years ago. Before LAG, Louise's background was mainly in legal publishing, apart from a brief stint in the Mayor of London’s press office.

Marc started working at LAG as a part-time freelancer in March 2015 and joined full time in June 2015, ultimately taking up the deputy editor post at Legal Action when Louise became editor. He has worked in legal publishing since 1998, previously at Legalease and then at LexisNexis.

Learning and Development

Shelley is a New South Wales-qualified lawyer and is currently completing her Doctorate in Law. At Legal Action Group, she is responsible for planning and managing training workshops and materials. Prior to joining LAG, she was a visiting lecturer in Tort Law at King's College London and previously worked as a researcher at the University of Hong Kong.

Operations Officer

Tessa joined Legal Action Group in October 2022 to assist with operations. During her time at LAG, she has overseen projects relating to LAG's development, including the website redesign. Tessa also manages LAG's conferences and has written for Legal Action magazine on access to justice across the country. Prior to joining LAG, Tessa studied history at the University of Glasgow before completing a Masters in Journalism.

Bookkeeper

Chris has over 10 years experience guiding London restauranteurs to achieve their financial goals and maximise their revenue. In 2023, driven by a desire to contribute to the nonprofit sector, Chris joined the Legal Action Group. Here, Chris has efficiently streamlined daily transactional tasks, allowing the organisation to concentrate on strategic funding and revenue allocation, ensuring vital support reaches those in need.
