Description and brief synopsis
The LAA aims to start new contracts on 1 September 2018. This course will cover the key changes in the 2018 contract so that you don’t get caught out. We will also look at topical issues in legal aid funding to ensure that you pass LAA audits.
The course offers practical guidance and support. Legal aid expert, Vicky Ling, will lead a practical and interactive course that aims to empower legal aid practitioners, helping them manage their 2018 contracts in the ever-changing world of civil legal aid.

•Office requirements
•Key performance indicators
•Management of NMS (new matter starts)
•Payment of third parties
•Costs appeal changes
•Issues arising from LAA audits and contract manager visits
•Contract notices

Comprehensive course handouts will be distributed to all delegates on the day.
*The free copy of Legal Aid handbook 2018/19 will be dispatched once published (mid- late July 2018) and only when course bookings have been paid in full. In the event of LAG having to cancel the course we will refund the course fees minus £60 to account for the price of the book. Please note the free book is only available to delegates booking on the commercial or standard rates
Details of speakers/trainers
Vicky Ling has worked in local government, the voluntary sector and was one of the first managers recruited by the then Legal Aid Board to implement its quality assurance standard 'franchising'. For over 20 years she has been an independent consultant specialising in legal aid practice. Vicky was the author of the Law Society's original guides to civil and criminal contracting. She jointly edits (with Simon Pugh, Sue James and Anthony Edwards) the LAG legal aid handbook.
Booking rates
Commercial rate: £125 + VAT - commercial organisations including barristers and solicitors in private practice.
Standard rate: £115 + VAT - statutory and not for profit organisations.
