Petition against asylum fee hike
Human rights lawyer Shoaib M Khan has started an online petition against the government’s proposed increase to the court fees for immigration and asylum cases. Some fees would rise by more than 500 per cent in a move designed to fund the £37m-a-year hearings. Under the proposals from the Ministry of Justice, the fee in the First-tier Tribunal for a decision on the papers would increase from £80 to £490 and the fees for a full hearing would rise from £140 to £800. The petition, which, at the time of writing, had been signed by 3,400 people, can be found at: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/129574.
