Low Commission takes on political party conferences
This month sees the arrival of the party conference season, and the Low Commission has organised a programme of events at the conferences of the main political parties.
On 22 September, at the Labour party conference in Manchester, Yvonne Fovargue MP will chair a discussion panel with Sadiq Khan MP, Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice, Lord Low, the commission’s chairperson, and Steve Hynes, LAG’s director.
On 30 September, at the Conservative party conference in Birmingham, Robert Buckland, the newly promoted Solicitor General, will chair a meeting at which Lord Low will share a platform with Lord Faulks QC, Minister of State for Justice, to debate what the commission describes as ‘the advice deficit’. The other speakers will be Phillip Taylor, a barrister from the Society of Conservative Lawyers, who has been conducting a civil justice review for the Conservative party, and Julie Bishop, director of the Law Centres Network.
On 5 October, the Liberal Democrats party conference in Glasgow will host a fringe meeting, courtesy of the Liberal Democrat Lawyers Association, at which Lord Low will give a talk. The other speakers will be Simon Hughes, the Justice Minister, and Suzanne Fletcher from Stockton Citizens Advice Bureau.
