IN BRIEF
‘Legal justice together’ conference
Over 150 lawyers, advice workers, trade unionists and other campaigners attended a conference in Manchester on the legal aid cuts and the cuts to advice services last month (see page 3 of this issue). ‘Legal justice together’ was organised by the campaign group Access to Advice. Conference delegates agreed a declaration which included support for the criminal legal aid lawyers’ campaign (see left) and called for ‘actions and challenges in the local elections in May 2014 to highlight the desperate impacts of legal advice cuts’.
Access to Advice plans to lobby during the autumn political party conference season. It is also urging organisations to submit evidence to the House of Commons Justice Committee inquiry into the impact of the civil legal aid cuts (see page 6 of this issue).
Justice Alliance petition
The Justice Alliance petition to ‘save legal aid to protect access to justice for all’ had 20,839 supporters at the time of writing.
