Low Commission sets sights on postelection reform
The Low Commission’s follow up report on the future of social and welfare law will be launched at the House of Commons on 4 March.
Speakers will include MPs from all three main political parties: the Lib-Dem’s Simon Hughes, Conservative’s Dominic Grieve, and Labour’s Andy Slaughter.
The report is the culmination of months of research and influencing work, and sets out a platform on how the government should address the problems of funding vital advice services.
The commission hopes to be well placed to influence the next government, with a developed and evidence-based package of policy ideas for new ministers to consider. Immediate issues for consideration will be the planned review of the impact of the LASPO changes, and the future of Big Lottery funding schemes for advice. The report also raises longer term strategic issues for public services redress, welfare reform and how local government and health services can work together in local communities to plan preventative services and interventions.
