Description: Housing
The Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS) began operating on 1 August 2023, replacing Housing Possession Court Duty Schemes. It is designed to offer non-means-tested, free legal advice to people who have received written notice of a landlord’s or mortgage lender’s intention to recover possession, or who have been served with possession proceedings. The appointment process has been controversial: Browne Jacobson’s housing team was appointed as a second specialist support provider despite it acting for landlords rather than the tenants whom the scheme is designed to help. For more on HLPAS, see the September 2023 ‘Housing: recent developments’ article.
