20.23When a new deputyship order is made, the court will notify the OPG so that they can begin to supervise the new deputy to ensure that he understands his duties and is acting correctly.
20.24In 2015 the OPG overhauled the supervision regime. There had previously been four levels of supervision, each attracting a different annual fee, and a deputy could expect to move between these levels as experience, circumstances and asset levels altered over time.
20.25There are now two levels of supervision:
General Supervision – this is allocated to all cases in their first year; and
Minimal supervision – deputies managing total assets of £19,000 or less on behalf of P will normally be moved down to this level after the first year of the deputyship.
20.26The new supervision regime supports a more targeted approach to supervising deputies with specialised teams focussing on particular groups of deputies such as local authority deputies, lay deputies or professional deputies.
