19.1This chapter deals with quality standards and performance monitoring under contracts with the Legal Aid Agency (LAA), from a management perspective. We will cover the Standard Civil Contract 2013, which covers the main family, immigration and asylum and housing and debt contracts. We also cover the Standard Civil Contract 2014, covering mental health and community care; the Standard Civil Contract 2015, covering actions against the police etc, clinical negligence and public law and the Standard Crime Contract 2017. There are also others, see chapter 18.
19.2Whatever kind of contract you have with the LAA, there is no substitute for reading it! The worst-case scenario is that you overlook something fundamental, for example your supervisor may not meet the supervisor standards, the LAA discovers this and your contract is terminated, because there is nothing you can do to remedy the historic breach.
