I welcome the fourth edition of this essential handbook on practice and procedure. Edward Jacobs has yet again provided the judge and practitioner alike with an insightful, detailed and accurate summary of the way we work. In his foreword to the third edition published in October 2014 Sir Jeremy Sullivan predicted the continuing need for a commentary of this quality. I shall be bold enough to repeat that prediction and look forward to the continuing support of the Legal Action Group in all that we do, most particularly at a time of such rapid change and reform.
